[Entwurf] Wiki, Muster und Wissen

Muster in Wiki

  • The Company of Strangers — Paul Seabright’s The Company of Strangers (2004, rev. 2010) is a study of the importance of trust in strangers in our everyday lives. Seabright challenges the assumption that humans exist in primarily competitive relations with each other, and points out instead that our everyday lives are dependent on the capacity to trust that others will act in predictable ways that sustain the institutions on which we all rely.
  • Constructed KnowingMaha Bali Everyone welcome to contribute to this Wikipedia style article on Constructed Knowing based on Women’s Ways of Knowing. Inspired by Frances Bell post on Forking as (Cultural) Feature
  • Slow Technology — In Slow Technology, Hallnas & Red strom (2001) advance the need for a form of design that emphasises reflection, the amplification of environments, and the use of technologies that a) amplify the presence of time; b) stretch time and extend processes; and c) reveal an expression of present time as slow-paced.
  • Disruptive Inefficiency — Disruptive inefficiency is a useful way of thinking about the intervention of slow methods in production that are valued by consumers but that reduce overall levels of productivity in an industry.
  • High Awareness in Foraging — We seek an active reader willing to interpret incomplete, fragmented and contradictory works. The thoroughness of long-form writing compensates for publication friction that has vanished. Better to return quickly and frequently to a thought than struggle to wring all value out at once.
  • Networked Publics — Mizuko Ito et al introduce the idea of networked publics to focus on the “broader social and cultural ecology that a person inhabits” as they participate in public culture pdf.

  • Community accountability and epistemology — The way in which we perceive our embeddedness into given social contexts depends highly on our understanding of preliminary examples. We want to encourage transparent practices that work for all and provide a sufficient semiologic context to support the proposal.
  • Tracking other’s promises — The non-equivalent exchange principle requires trust into the eventually fulfilled promise of a value flow. Economic circuits stabilise this process and redistribute it upon their mechanics.

1997, Cunningham, W.: Folk Memory :page_facing_up: pdf
This memo describes an adaptive architecture for federating peer object servers. Both the architecture and its implementations are called Folk Memory. This term alludes to the social process by which folk tales or folk songs are remembered and propagated within a culture. The folk servers, like people within a culture, share their interests with their associates and associate with those who share their interests. Folk servers stream domain objects over simultainous connections to peers dynamically chosen to shorten access to the authoritative sources for objects deemed interesting. Conflicts are resolved by a collective process that may not settle to identical state in all parts of a network. Folk memory favors scaleability and robustness over accuracy and determinism

2014, Cunningham, W. and Mehaffy, M.W.: “Wiki as Pattern Language.” :page_facing_up: pdf
We describe the origin of wiki technology, which has become widely influential, and its relationship to the development of pattern languages insoftware. We show how the relationship is deeper than previously understood. The deep shared logic points to unrealized potential, with expandedcapability for wikis – including a new generation of “federated” wiki. We draw conclusions about the use of this and related technology to “curate”(collectively gather and refine) knowledge systems.

Wissensallmende

Zum Abschied von dieser Sache, ein paar aphoristische Bonmots aus einer anderen Textföderation.

Mostly people will share knowledge

Linking and connecting people is more important than storing their artifacts.

Fragmented knowledge

Everything is fragmented. We evolved to handle unstructured fragmented fine granularity information objects, not highly structured documents.

We can’t really describe how we know things

The way we know things is not the way we report we know things. … This has major consequences for knowledge management practice.

Coding knowledge reduces information

We always know more than we can say, and we will always say more than we can write down. This is probably the most important.
